Explanation
A speech by Kim Gwang-je proposing a civic movement to repay the national debt owed to Japan, from Yeonseol Daehae (Compendium of Speeches), compiled by Lee Ho-jin, published in September 1909. Kim calls for “the unity of the entire citizenry with one mind to move the heavens to smoothly accomplish the great task and [thereby] safeguard the country.” The speech is believed to have been delivered at a gathering at Gwangmunsa Publishing Co. in Daegu, as a manifesto to explain the purpose and background of the movement being launched.
